There's a question I hear often from women who find their way to my practice:
"Camille, do I have to choose between Reiki and therapy?"
And every time, my answer is the same.
No, beloved. You don't.
In fact, some of the most profound healing I've witnessed in my own life and in the lives of my clients happens when energy work and therapy walk side by side.
This isn't about picking a team. It's about honoring the fullness of who you are.
Why Healing Is Rarely One-Dimensional
We are layered beings.
Mind. Body. Spirit. Emotion. Energy.
When something is off in one area, it often ripples into the others. That knot in your chest may carry grief. That racing mind may hold trauma. That low, heavy feeling may be your energy body asking to be cleared.
Healing just one layer while ignoring the rest is like watering only one side of a plant and wondering why it won't grow.
That's where the beauty of integration comes in.
What Therapy Does Beautifully
Therapy is a sacred container.
A trained therapist helps you:
-
name what you're feeling
-
understand where patterns come from
-
process trauma with clinical support
-
build coping tools for daily life
-
gain language for your inner experience
Therapy meets you in the mind , in the stories, the memories, the meaning-making.
It gives you words for things that once felt unspeakable.
And for many women, especially those navigating anxiety, depression, or deep trauma, therapy isn't just helpful, it's essential.
What Energy Work Does Beautifully
Energy work -Reiki, crystal healing, sound therapy, breathwork meets you in the body and spirit.
Where therapy uses words, energy work uses presence.
During a Crystal Reiki session, we move beneath the story. We address the tension stored in your shoulders. The heaviness in your chest. The blocked energy sitting at your sacral or heart chakra.
Reiki speaks to your nervous system in a language older than words:
You are safe.
You can exhale now.
You don't have to carry this alone.
Sometimes clients leave a session realizing something they've been trying to understand in therapy for months. Not because Reiki "fixed" it… but because their body finally felt safe enough to release what was ready to go.
A Client's Story: Where the Two Met
I worked with a woman last year who had been in therapy for over two years.
She loved her therapist. She had done the work journaling, inner child exercises, all of it. But she came to me saying:
"Camille, I understand my patterns. I can explain them perfectly. But I still feel stuck. My body still feels heavy."
That's such an important thing to listen to.
During our first Crystal Reiki session, as I moved energy around her heart and throat, she began to cry not from sadness, but from release. Her body was finally letting go of what her mind had already named.
She went back to her next therapy appointment with a clarity she had never felt before. Her therapist noticed it immediately.
That's integration.
The mind understood. The body believed it. The spirit aligned.
How I Recommend Women Integrate Both
Every woman's path is her own, but here's what I often suggest:
1. Let therapy hold the mind.
If you're working through trauma, anxiety, depression, or relational patterns, please — work with a licensed therapist. Energy work is not a replacement for mental health care. It never has been and never will be.
2. Let energy work support the body and spirit.
Use Reiki, meditation, sound, or ritual to help your nervous system settle. To clear energetic residue. To reconnect with yourself beyond thought.
3. Let them inform each other.
What comes up during Reiki can be beautifully unpacked in therapy. What you uncover in therapy can be softened and integrated through energy work.
They are partners, not competitors.
4. Communicate with both practitioners if you're comfortable.
You don't have to hide one from the other. A good therapist will honor your spiritual practices. A good energy worker — like myself — will always encourage your therapeutic support.
When Energy Work Alone Isn't Enough
I want to be clear and loving here.
If you are in crisis… if you are having thoughts of harming yourself… if you are navigating active trauma, severe depression, or a mental health emergency please reach out to a licensed mental health professional or crisis line first.
Reiki is a beautiful companion on the healing journey.
It is not a substitute for professional mental health care.
The women I've seen thrive are the ones who build a team around their wellness — therapist, energy worker, doctor, community, self. All working together.
You Get to Have Both
This is what I want you to walk away with today:
You don't have to choose.
You can honor the wisdom of modern psychology and the ancient knowing of energy healing. You can sit on a therapist's couch on Tuesday and lie on my Reiki table on Thursday and both experiences can hold you.
You are allowed to be layered.
You are allowed to heal in multiple languages.
You are allowed to take up space in both the clinical and the sacred.
