Some days just sit heavy.
You wake up and the weight is already there pressing on your chest, clouding your thoughts, pulling at your shoulders. Nothing specific happened… and yet everything feels like too much.
If you're nodding as you read this, beloved this post is for you.
Over the years, through lupus flare-ups, through grief, through the kind of stress that doesn't announce itself but slowly steals your peace, I've learned something important:
You don't need an hour to come back to yourself.
You need 10 minutes and a little intention.
Why Heavy Days Need Ritual
Heavy days aren't a sign that something is wrong with you.
They're often a signal. A whisper from your body, your spirit, your nervous system saying:
"I've been carrying too much. Please, pause."
When we push through without honoring that whisper, the heaviness grows. It settles into our shoulders, our sleep, our relationships, our energy.
Ritual is how we answer the whisper.
Ritual tells your body: I hear you. I've got you. We're going to reset right now.
And the beautiful thing? It doesn't have to be elaborate.
The 10-Minute "Return to Center" Routine
This is the routine I come back to when the day feels too big. Every step is simple, and every step is intentional. You can do this in your bedroom, your bathroom, your car on a lunch break — anywhere you can close your eyes for a moment.
Here's how it flows:
Minute 1: Pause and Acknowledge
Before anything else, stop.
Place one hand on your heart. One hand on your belly.
Take three slow breaths and say — out loud or in your mind:
"Today is heavy. And I am allowed to tend to myself."
That's it. No fixing. No analyzing. Just acknowledgement.
So many of us skip this part. We jump straight into how I feel better without first honoring this is hard.
You can't heal what you won't honor.
Minutes 2–3: Cleanse Your Energy
Heavy days often mean heavy energy has attached to you — sometimes your own, sometimes picked up from the world around you.
Reach for your cleansing tool of choice:
-
a spritz of an aura spray around your head, heart, and back
-
lighting your favorite cleansing candle
-
burning a small piece of incense or a smudge stick
-
simply running your hands down your body from head to toe with the intention of release
As you cleanse, breathe deeply and say:
"I release what is not mine to carry."
Feel the energetic layer around you soften. This is your aura coming home.
Minutes 4–5: Ground Into Your Body
Heavy days pull us into our heads into worry, rumination, overthinking.
This step brings you back into your body, which is where peace actually lives.
Sit with your feet flat on the floor. Close your eyes.
Imagine roots growing from the soles of your feet deep into the earth. With every exhale, the roots go deeper. With every inhale, you draw up steady, nourishing energy from the ground.
If you have a grounding crystal nearby — black tourmaline, hematite, smoky quartz, or red jasper — hold it in your hands or place it at your feet.
Stay here. Breathe. Let the earth hold you for a moment.
Minutes 6–7: Open the Heart
Once your body feels steadier, it's time to soften.
Move your hands to your heart space. Gently tap your chest, or make slow circles with your palm.
Think of one small thing you're grateful for. Not a forced, toxic-positivity kind of gratitude — just one real thing. The warmth of your coffee. Your child's laugh from earlier. The fact that you made it through yesterday.
If you have rose quartz nearby, place it on your heart. This is the stone of self-love, compassion, and gentle opening.
Breathe into your heart space and whisper:
"I am safe to feel. I am safe to soften."
Minutes 8–9: Set a Tiny Intention
Now that you've acknowledged, cleansed, grounded, and softened — ask yourself one quiet question:
"What does the rest of this day need from me?"
Not a to-do list. Not productivity.
Just… what does this version of you, on this heavy day, need?
Maybe it's:
-
moving slower
-
drinking more water
-
saying no to one thing
-
going to bed early
-
calling someone who feels safe
-
letting something be unfinished
Set that tiny intention. Let it be enough.
Minute 10: Seal the Practice
Place both hands back on your heart.
Take one final deep breath.
Say out loud or in your mind:
"I have returned to myself. And that is enough for today."
Open your eyes.
How This Ritual Works (The Deeper Why)
This routine isn't just pretty , it's intentional.
You acknowledged your truth (mind).
You cleared your energy (spirit).
You grounded your body (nervous system).
You opened your heart (emotion).
You set intention (will).
You sealed it (integration).
That's a full-self reset in 10 minutes. No wonder you feel different when you're done.
Tools That Support This Ritual
You don't need any tools to return to center — but certain sacred items can deepen the practice:
-
Aura sprays for energetic cleansing
-
Ritual candles to hold space and focus intention
-
Grounding crystals like black tourmaline, hematite, or smoky quartz
-
Heart-opening crystals like rose quartz or green aventurine
-
Therapeutic body oils to anoint your heart, wrists, or the soles of your feet
-
Incense or smudge sticks for gentle energy clearing
Each of these tools is a small ally — something tangible to remind your body that you are tending to yourself on purpose.
When Heavy Days Become Heavy Weeks
I want to say this with love:
If heavy days are stretching into heavy weeks or months… if the weight feels like more than your daily practices can hold… please reach out for deeper support.
A therapist. A doctor. A trusted loved one.
Ritual is a beautiful companion but it's not meant to carry what requires professional care. The strongest women I know build a team around their wellness. You're allowed to do the same.
A Gentle Invitation
If today is one of those heavy days for you, I hope you take the next 10 minutes and try this.
Not perfectly. Not beautifully.
Just honestly.
And if you'd like to go deeper to have your energy held by someone else while you simply receive a Crystal Reiki session is one of the most powerful ways to move through a heavy season.
When you're ready, you can:
